Post 17 - 2013 Mardi Gras....

Today as so many people are stuffing their faces with food and drinks, I am reminded there are those that are less fortunate out there.   My cousin was lucky enough to be able to travel half way across the world to help others.  She left her family, the comforts of home, and western civilization to help others in need. She traveled to Sironko, Uganda with the Compassion child development center (project).  The pictures are surreal.   The work she is doing is immeasurable. They are not at a school. It's called a project. It is a facility for Compassion kids to come on Saturdays for classes like health, learning a skill, and Bible lessons. After that they hosted a VBS like event- that was a ton of fun. Then to end the day they traveled to a very mountainous area that had an incredible waterfall. They had to hike quite a bit to get there, but she said it was worth it. Uganda is very lush, very tropical and the variety of plants and flowering trees are amazing. Though she misses her family she is  still sooo grateful for this opportunity and encourages others to travel...even better to do a trip like this where you can really interact with people in other cultures. I am so proud of her and all that she is accomplishing over there.  Such an amazing selfless experience.

So today as people are participating in gluttonous feasts and doing things they will later regret.  Try doing something for others.  Try  going into Ash Wednesday feeling proud about you and what you can do, rather than guilty and non deserving.  Volunteer, help a stranger, do anything, just do something!
